Partizanfilm is Burlington’s new downtown cinema.

Our grassroots, cooperative project began with the November 2024 closure of the only commercial movie theater in Vermont’s largest city. Five Burlingtonians subsequently formed a nonprofit corporation, which purchased a commercial condominium across the street from the Fletcher Free Library the following May. With a mixture of hired and volunteer labor, renovations began in July, transforming a former yoga studio into a cinema with two screens, two bathrooms, and a lobby that doubles (or triples) as a cafe-bookstore.

Our intimate auditoriums — just 31 and 19 seats apiece — offer comfortable seating, excellent sight lines, and high-quality projection and sound. Our snack counter serves coffee, espresso, and beer and wine, in addition to the usual sweet and salty treats (including, of course, popcorn).

Today, Partizanfilm has more than 330 members and shows independent and foreign films seven days a week. Together, we can ensure the survival of in-person moviegoing in Vermont’s cultural and artistic capital. Our democratic, member-run cinema depends upon the community’s support and participation.

Our normal operating hours are 1:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, 12:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 12:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. You can see our current showtimes here.
